In a controversial decision a high school in Caerphilly, Wales will reopen its doors this September to pupils despite asbestos still being present. This case only serves to highlight the danger posed by older premises and with a long latency period for asbestos illnesses of around 40 years it may be some time before the full effect is felt. It is shocking that someone exposed in their teenage years, through no fault of their own, may go on to develop an asbestos related disease in their 50’s. Asbestos clearly still poses a danger in modern society despite the increased legislation to protect against it.
